We've had a few questions about USA Swimming numbers and observed meets.
For high school-only swimmers, this is not a concern. Don't worry about it!!
For club swimmers, it could be important.
Club swimmers are registered (through the South Texas Swimming LSC) with USA Swimming.
Most club meets have time standards ("faster than", or "slower than") and official times swum in USA Swimming meets are used for entry to those meets. Those times can be found in the USA Swimming database commonly known as SWIMS.
While high school swim meets are not sanctioned by USA Swimming, some are classified as "observed" meets. This means that USA Swimming-certified officials will be on deck and times swum by club kids may be entered into SWIMS.
For example, some club swimmers will shave/taper for district, region, or state high school meets. Those meets will be observed. Times swum in those meets may be used to enter higher level club meets such as TAGS, Sectionals, Junior Nationals, etc.
