At our October 8 parent meeting, we discussed the challenge of competing in
the AISD Invite (Nov. 9) and Aggieland
Invite (Nov. 10) on consecutive days. We know it will be a tough
weekend, but the feedback I got from swimmers and parents was that we were going
to "go for it".
The AISD Invite was on the meet schedule our previous coach left me and is
obviously our priority meet of that weekend.
I added the A&M meet with the understanding that we would
first support the AISD meet and
then make the trip to College Station. My reasoning
for scheduling the A&M meet was twofold.
First and foremost, I feel it's important that we make every attempt to
compete in the facility that will be the site of our Region IV
championships.
Since our swimmers have competed in the A&M meet in the past, that
history also played a part in adding the meet to the existing schedule.
It has come to my attention that some may "decide" to "skip" the AISD
Invite, but expect to attend the A&M meet. This type of "decision" is not an
athlete's to make.
Each swimmer wishing to attend the A&M travel meet will email me their
preferences for events at both the AISD Invite and the
Aggieland Invite. Thanks to those of you who've already done this!
Only swimmers submitting that info will be
considered for travel to College Station.
If we exceed the entry limits for the AISD Invite, I will then have to pare
down our squad for that meet. Swimmers I pull
from the AISD meet will be allowed to attend the
A&M meet.
Thanks to a great fall fundraising effort, we can afford to make the trip
to A&M. That trip is still on, provided we support our AISD Invite as
well.
Thanks for your help and cooperation in getting emails to me early in the
week, as entries for both meets are due this Friday.
Sincerely,
Bob Button
